The upcoming Recivilized book is a practical guide to creating a better way of life for ourselves. It furnishes a blueprint for building a “recivilized” society.
Conveying a realistic vision
The book conveys the author’s vision of a better way of life. Based on the rules of human thriving, this vision isn’t a pie-in-the-sky utopia, but rather a realistic, achievable ideal.
This vision is general, so it applies to any society anywhere. Described with respect to a specific place, it comes alive. That’s why, in the book, it’s described within the context of Frederick County, MD.
The Land of Pleasant Living
On the old maps of Maryland, what’s now Frederick County was labeled “Indian paradise.” Settled by Germans in the mid-1700s, it became a very pleasant place to live. In the past few decades, however, it has become increasingly unpleasant, and is now a place of traffic jams, failing schools, and rising crime.
The county’s “good bones” remain nonetheless, so its essential nature can be restored. It can be envisioned, as it was before, as a pleasant place to live. That’s why, in the book, the author’s vision of a better way of life is called The Land of Pleasant Living.
